I met Karl 16 years ago and knew that my life was about to take an entertaining turn. I can still vividly recall our very first encounter, a meeting that would set the stage for countless laughs and endless debates. Karl's opening line "how 'bout them Yankees?" Without thinking, I responded by telling him that the Yankees sucked. Little did I know, that one sentence would become the starting point for a  very long, never-ending debate that showed no signs of slowing down.

Karl was no ordinary baseball fan; he was a true aficionado. His knowledge of the game was unparalleled, and he had an uncanny ability to match my baseball wits and then proceed to put them to shame. We could talk about memorabilia for hours on end, dissecting stats and players with the enthusiasm of kids in a candy store. 
But Karl wasn't just a sports enthusiast; he was a master of dry humor. Sometimes, I couldn't quite tell whether he was making fun of me or being deadly serious, but that didn't matter because it was always uproarious. His jokes had a knack for catching you off guard, leaving you wondering, "Wait, was that a joke?" 

Karl possessed a remarkable gift – the ability to turn even the dullest moments into something side-splittingly hilarious. 

Karl's biggest pride and joy were his kids. I had the privilege of watching them grow, from the days of Little League ball when they were just kids with dreams, to the remarkable men they have become today. Karl was more than just a spectator; he was their biggest fan, coach, mentor, and, most importantly, their dad.

He never missed a game, cheering them on from the sidelines with unmatched enthusiasm. The bond he shared with them was unbreakable, a testament to the love and dedication he poured into their lives. He was their father; their guide, their source of wisdom, and their source of endless laughter. 

Karl, my friend, I will see you in another world soon enough, because we need to finish our debate, because the Yankees suck!  RIP

As I write this all the fond memories our families shared together come flooding back.  The joy of how those memories still make us smile and the longing to have that time back again.  Oh, to have the grrrreat Bambino (Jeff) up to bat again, or Mariano Rivera (Mike) to come in and close the game.  Those are just a couple of Yankee player nicknames he had for the kids he coached.  That longing and those memories Karl gave us will always remain forever in time, so will all the thoughts of how he helped mold “all” of our boys into the men they are today.

I worked with you and Karl for years and appreciated his quiet humbleness and quick, dry wit, compared to your more "vocal  presentations" at get-togethers and work functions:  you and Kim have a LOT in common! :)  Karl was always helpful with a kind word or meaningful direction giving advice to his subordinates, especially if they were baseball fans!  He could be counted on to back up his officers and provide guiding counsel when necessary.

It's with a heavy heart that we write about the passing of Karl, which was a massive shock to us. The memories we have of Karl are vivid and plenty, as we shared countless moments that span across decades.

Karl had this innate ability to light up any room he entered with his captivating stories. It was not just his stories, but the way he narrated them – with sincerity and dry wit that made everyone feel included.

We fondly recall the barbecues we had where he would have just a steak and a baked potato. He would passionately discuss baseball, arguing about the tactics, discussing the merits, and the demerits of players and describing his collection of memorabilia.

While we mourn Karl's passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived. A life filled with love, commitment, passion, and service. Our deepest condolences to Jill, his boys and his family. Karl's memory will live on in the stories we share, the moments we cherish, and in the values he stood for.

Rest in peace, dear Karl. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

Karl was one of the nicest individuals who would give you the time and show you mutual respect. We shared an avid interest in collecting sports items and was the finest example of strength through his easy going demeanor. He will always be remembered.

My sincerest condolences 🙏🏾 to the Hirsch family.  I worked with Karl at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department  and he was a kind, fair, descent and honorable man. Thanks for your leadership and understanding while guiding your troops. Great wife as well. God bless the family.

In the little time we got to know Jill and Karl we hit it off. We met them when Karl Jr came to Quincy for college. Our boys became friends and eventually roommates. Always enjoyed their company, the visits, Karl’s stories and closing down Texas Roadhouse because we’d been there for hours just talking. I’m sorry for your family’s loss. You all will be in our prayers. Until we meet again my friend, Rest in Peace. ❤️
