Judith Ann Horan (Judy) of Pompano Beach, FL passed away peacefully on August 21, 2022 at the age of 84. She will be deeply missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and services are detailed below.
Judy was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Crystal Lake, IL. Following graduation from Northern Illinois University, she began her career as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach in McHenry, IL. While at Northern Illinois University, she met the love of her life Mickey Horan. They were married in August of 1963 and moved to Nebraska. A short time later they moved to Marion, Ohio and grew their family with the addition of a son, Kevin, in 1965. Mickey’s career saw them move to Florida, Georgia, and then Statesville, NC, where they settled in for 16 years and Judy returned to teaching. From Statesville they continued to Ithaca, NY and Gainesville, GA before finally settling in Pompano Beach in 1995.
Judy was proud to have traveled the world. From a college trip with girlfriends that took her around Europe, to hosting tours of Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands in conjunction with annual business trips taking Mickey’s customers to Europe, to a “legendary” Europe tour she did with her Mother, Brother, and Sister in the 70’s, she was always happy to set off on a plane or a cruise ship to see new sites. In addition to traveling with Mickey, she was an avid golfer, with a passion of the game that came to her when she was very young in Crystal Lake.
Judy has now joined her husband Mickey and her parents Edward and Janet Sandke, sister Mary Lou Byrd, and brother William Sandke in Heaven. She is survived by her loving son, Kevin, her grand-dogs, Paddy and Harp, brother and sister-in-law Edward and Carol Sandke and several nieces and nephews.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
