JOSEPH CAMPANELLA, 87 passed away on September 6, 2019 in Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Joe was born on July 9, 1932 to Carmelo and Rosalie Campanella (Giammocaro). Joe was born and raised in Secaucus, New Jersey. He served his country proud in the US Army as a Specialist 3 and was discharged on January 8, 1957. He went to college in Missouri and graduated from Logan Basic College of Chiropractic Medicine in March of 1954. He practiced his vocation until 1970, and then retired to Fort Lauderdale and started his second career in real estate. Joe loved living in Fort Lauderdale and was one of its biggest champions and supporters and became heavily involved in local planning boards and politics. He worked tirelessly to make Ft Lauderdale a beautiful and healthy place to live.
Throughout his life he tried to help everyone he met, and this could best be demonstrated by his fostering of young troubled men to help them lead better drug free responsible lives. Joe’s passion was traveling and visited almost every country in the world. His vast knowledge was shared with everyone, and he loved being the life of the party. One could always pick him out of the crowd with his unique fashion style. Joe was described by everyone he met as intelligent, compassionate and a humorous man with no unkind words about anyone (unless you were from the opposition political party.) A smile was his signature, and his goal with everyone he met, whether you were a person he just saw in an elevator, or a longtime friend, was simple; put a smile on your face with his silly sense of humor. So, please remember the happy times, learn as much as you can, everyone is your family, take care of your health and try to make a difference as a tribute to Joseph T Campanella, a special man.
He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers; Robert Campanella and Thomas Campanella. Surviving him is his sister; Genevieve Hausler and too many other family members and friends to mention. Memorial contributions in Joe's memory are being accepted to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 at the Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Joseph's funeral will commence on Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn South.
