Frank Sobchak, 94 of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on September 16, 2021. Frank worked for the Stewart-Warner Corp in Chicago, Illinois as a Mechanical Engineer. He holds 15 U.S. Patents granted by the USPTO, including one for the early fax machine and another for the first sports scoreboard. He was a WWII Veteran drafted in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army. Frank retired to Florida in 1972 as Proprietor and Manager of Sorrento Apartments on the Isle of Venice for the remaining 49 years as he raised his two boys with his wife Alyce Martha Douglas Sobchak. He was known, loved and remembered by all on the Isle of Venice, throughout Fort Lauderdale and wherever he passed through. He loved golfing, sailing and skiing. He has traveled and skied all over the world, including the pinnacle Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. Some of his fondest memories include sailing on Lake Michigan, family summer road trips, ski trips and spending time with family.
Frank Sobchak is survived by his two sons Frank Kenneth (Iris) of Holliston, MA; and Charles LeRoy (Alicia) of Sea Ranch Lakes, FL; and eight grandchildren Josh, Nathaniel, Catherine, William, Ana, Audrey, Alyce and Charles. He is preceded in death by his best friend and wife Alyce Martha Douglas Sobchak. Together they lived an idyllic Florida life raising their family in the “Venice of America” with decades of golden days filled with sailing, skiing and family.
A memorial gathering for Frank will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308.
