Esther was born in July 1943, to Louis and Clara in Port-of-Prince, Haiti. She was the fourth child born to the couple and had six siblings.
She moved to the United States as a teenager where she proudly became a U.S. Citizen. After pursuing nursing in Brazil, Esther headed to New York City where she attended Secretarial Business School and embarked on a career at The United Nations where she became a Certified Translator, Proof Reader, Copywriter and Interpreter for The UN General Assembly, a linguist fluent in French, Creole, English, Spanish, Portuguese & Italian. This is where her humanitarian calling began. She spent her life learning attending NYU, Marymount, the New School as well as earning many licenses & certifications. She Lived in New York for over 45 years before semi-retiring in Florida.
She would go on to dedicate her entire life to serving God her family friends neighbors community and all of humanity in her life’s work as well as selfless acts of volunteer, healthcare, caregiving. Although she earned many awards and recognitions what she held dearest was the rewarding feeling from helping others. Donating her time, effort, home, finances and all she had to community, church, the elderly, children, the sick weak and most in need impacting the lives of thousands through her life mission of Humanitarian Relief at the United Nations, UNICEF & World Vision, as well as churches places of faith and worship : Times Square Church, Brooklyn Tabernacle, Prayer Groups/Clubs, Prayer Line, CRCC (Christ The Rock Community Church) Florida, New Life Assembly of God Pembroke Pines, Oasis Church
Pembroke Pines, QCS Quisqueya Chapel Haiti, Forest Hills Jewish Center and in Healthcare/ Caregiving : Long Island Jewish Hospital - La Guardian Hospital (HIP) Miami Jewish Health, Douglas Gardens, Cancer Research, University of Miami Sylvester Cancer, UHealth, University of Miami, NYU, Moffitt Cancer Center, Memorial West Cancer Institute, Alzheimer’s Adult Day Care, volunteering for decades within her community: Southwest Focal Point Community Center, City of Pembroke Pines, South Florida Institute of The Aging, SofiaCare SCP Volunteer, Senior Corps Senior Companion, Easter seals of Florida, Broward County Supervisor of Elections to name a few…
She lived everyday so full of life spreading her joy & light a true free fun loving spirit. Her contagious constant outbursts of laughter will remain with us forever. Esther was a breath of fresh air in any room or space she entered. Oh how she loved to praise & worship God, to dance to all types of music & was a great dancer. She loved to travel and was blessed to have enjoyed many voyages around the world.
She was known as one of the most loving giving charitable generous beings one could have ever encountered or known. Freely offering her unconditional love, care, time, prayer, food, monetary or material with no strings attached. Esther would give so much wholeheartedly without hesitation.
She always did everything with a great big smile, giving thanks and with a grateful heart. Even while bravely battling cancer and during her last days with us were filled with lots of smiles and endless “thank you’s” to God and all that cared for her. She never questioned God or compared herself to another. She forgave quickly and prayed for all those who are troubled even from her own sickbed.
Esther is survived by her daughter : Tamara Grand-children Curtis, Angelique Great-granddaughter: Leia. Sisters : Mireille, Edith, Sisters in Law : Graciela, Maribel. Brothers : John “Rolla”, Frantz, Didier. Brother in Law : Joel Adored Cousins who were like siblings include: Danielle, Claire, Joe, Judy. Nieces and
Nephews who she loved as her own children Belinda, Annunzie, Patrick, Jacqueline, Michael, Claudine, Ricky, Cynthia, Gabrielle, Christian and her beloved Vanessa. grand-nieces and nephews she cared for as her own grandchildren Laurent, Emma, Mahalia, Donatello, Dedrick. Son in-law: Sean. Best friend: Valerie in Australia, Gladys R, Marie Thé. Esther was blessed with a huge family, in-laws, and many friends (including her daughter and grand children’s friends) , her brothers & sisters in faith who she loved her deeply or shared special connections with - You know who you are!
