Anne Marie Ermite Rousseau, “Meme”, age 85, passed away on Thursday March 18, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Ermite was born in Grand-Goave, Haiti, on March 24, 1935, to parents Frankel and Morena Rousseau. She owned a well-known store in her neighborhood which brought her great success. Ermite’s talents were many; she was a great seamstress, an amazing cook, and friend who loved to entertain. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family, snacking, attending church, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as the matriarch of the family.
She was a great family woman and a loving mother and grandmother. She married André Yves Kernisant in Leogane, Haiti and the couple had three children together, including Gina Fils-Aimé who passed away in 2010. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, husband and daughter. She is survived by her two siblings, Mews and Micheline Rousseau; two kids, Gerard Alex Kernisant and Marie Dominique Julien; and seven grandchildren (Cecilia, Hefgine, Naïssa, Satchel, Jamal, Ornella and Garvey).
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 26, 2021 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 8005 Miramar Parkway, with burial at Forest Lawn Funeral Home South, 2401 Davie Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home South.
