Althea Kay Excell-Hood was born on May 17th, 1958 in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica to Trevor and Florence Excell. Kay, as she was affectionately called by her family from a small child, attended MT. Alvernia Prep, Harrison Memorial School and Montego Bay High School.
Her working experience started as a teacher but soon changed her career to sales where she was employed by Tropical Tours for many years before she migrated to the United States in 1985, residing in South Florida. Kay worked at Budget Car Rental for a few years before pursuing her mortgage license to become a Mortgage Broker. She excelled in that field she decided to open her own mortgage company. Kay was also an independent distributor with Ardyss Intenational achieving the rank of president.
She was a very kind and generous person, always willing to give of her best and to help others. Kay was blessed to have a son, David who she loved immensely. As a big sister Kay at times assumed the role of mother, attempting to discipline her younger siblings even with a belt in her hand.
Kay believed in taking care of herself and preferred quality over quantity. She had a pure heart, spoke her mind, with good desires, focusing on what is best. She would go to the extreme to achieve her desired goals for self and others. Kay had several hobbies, among them was her love for tennis and backgammon. She even played the game of cricket in her younger days. She loved to entertain, cook and was a great host. We shared wonderful memories of the many gatherings which were held at her house and at the home in Jamaica.
She was a God-fearing lady who loved her church family and always inviting others to the church. She was willing to serve and got involved in different ministries. She was a blessing to her family and friends.
Yes, we mourn her passing, but let us celebrate her life. Kay was called to her eternal rest on the morning of January 31st, 2022. Kay’s parents preceded her in death. She will be dearly missed by husband Daryll, son David, sisters; Marlene, Maxine, Donna, Jean, Angela, Andrea and Arlene, brothers; Ray, Gregory (Peck), Ian and Collin, in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives, friends and Church family.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”. Psalm 116:15
