Stuart was born in Fort Frances, Ontario and was employed with Steep Rock Iron Mines, the Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Centre at Nym Lake and in Geraldton, before heading to Vancouver, here he was employed by Armature Electric for 20 years. He then returned to Atikokan.
Stuart enjoyed playing pool, darts, fishing, music and watching Canadian-produced TV programs. Following in his mother’s footsteps, he enjoyed cooking and while in BC enjoyed preparing his wild game feast (with pickerel, moose and deer from friends in Atikokan) for his annual New Year’s dinners for his friends. He was a graduate of the Confederation College Culinary Arts program at Quetico Centre in 2005. He loved his many pets, most recently his dog Coco. Stuart had an incredible memory and storytelling ability.
As per his request, Stuart will be cremated; a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Stuart will be missed by his family and many friends, especially Janice Livicker and her dog Duffy.
He is survived by his brothers Fred (Kathy) and Edward (Connie); his sisters Mary (Ted) and MaryAnn (Ron) and his five nieces and nephews and five great nieces and great nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Irene and Frederick J. McKay.
If friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Atikokan Food Bank, Homeward Bound Animal Rescue, or the Atikokan Christmas Cheer Fund.
