It is with heavy hearts and sadness the family announces the passing of our dear Judy, 69 years, of Nestor Falls, Ontario on Monday, April 26, 2010 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
She was born March 7, 1941 in Fort Frances, Ontario. Family was very important to Judy and she cherished times spent with them, countless hours of fun times with grandchildren in Nestor Falls, Winnipeg and Peterborough. Judy lived her whole life in Nestor Falls. On November 28, 1959 Judy married Stan, the love of her life. Throughout their 50 years of marriage they set an example of what a good solid marriage is like. On a daily basis, they faithfully represented what Christ expects us to be. Over the years, she and Stan operated successful tourist related businesses. She was a talented lady and to all was a leader in the community. She put her heart and soul into whatever she did, singing and playing the piano at church, U.C.W. functions and planning fundraisers. She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, sewing and entertaining family and friends. Anyone who knew her loved her dearly, she always welcomed you with her beautiful smile. Her hospitality was first class and you could be assured of a gourmet meal at her table, or an afternoon visit with tea and dainties. Other passions were tending her flowers, fishing, dancing, and travelling - she made friends wherever she went. She was a beautiful lady and will be sorely missed by the many lives she touched. However her memories will live on through all of us.
She was predeceased by her father, Telford Widgren; and her grandson, Tyler Cottam.
Judy is survived by her husband, Stan Cottam of Nestor Falls, ON.; three children, Harvey Cottam and wife Joan of Nestor Falls, ON., Keith Cottam and wife Tracey of Peterborough, ON., and Colleen and husband Ian Birt of Winnipeg, MB., seven grandchildren, Darrin, Kaitlyn, Scott, Matthew, Claire, and Ryan Cottam and Sara Birt.
She is also survived by her mother Evelyn Widgren of Emo, ON.; two brothers, Wayne Widgren and wife Diann, and Roger Widgren all of Nestor Falls, ON.; three sisters, Karla Widgren of Toronto, ON., Elaine and husband Tom Bercher of Brainerd, MN., and Cheryl and husband Paul Bodnar of Fort Frances, ON.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Minnesota.
A memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Nestor Falls United Church in Nestor Falls, Ontario with Reverend Carl Emke officiating.
Interment will take place in Norman Cottam Memorial Garden Cemetery in Nestor Falls, Ontario at a later date.
