It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Myers report her passing Monday, October 1, 2012 at LaVerendrye Hospital.
Mother passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Born in Spooner/Baudette Minnesota March 29, 1919 to John and Petra Kyler, Helen moved first to Big Falls, Mn and then to International Falls with her mother and two sisters Lillian Green and Lucille Olsen after the passing of her father. Growing up in International Falls she attended Falls High School and went on to attend nursing school in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Helen was united in marriage to Edward Russel (Rusty) Myers of Fort Frances January 1, 1938 and moved to Fort Frances in the same year. Helen obtained landed immigrant status in Canada, but while she loved Canada she was immensely proud to be an American citizen.
Helen and Rusty worked hand in hand throughout the 40's and 50's building the business of Rusty Myers Flying Service. Dad would fly and mother booked reservations, caught airplanes when they landed at the dock and entertained the customers of Rusty Myers Flying Service . She set a wonderful table and no one left Helen’s home without a good meal. Many sports writers and columnists from the United States spoke of wonderful hospitality and wild game dinners prepared by Helen
In her spare time mother enjoyed playing bridge, belonging to Beta Sigma Phi along with the antics of the plays and performances put on by her sorority sisters. She was a proud member of Eastern Star. Mother was an avid golfer and in her early years she loved to be involved in putting on the Christmas Pageants at Knox United Church. She loved to decorate the church for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Helen had an island home on Rainy Lake fondly called Helen’s Half Acre where during the summer she entertained and like so many others her heart was inextricably connected to Rainy Lake. She loved a beautiful sunrise or sunset on the island. Or just languishing on the dock with her friends on a warm summers day. All that said mother never passed up an opportunity to travel.
Sadly mother and dad’s partnership ended in 1978. Dad went to live in Boca Raton Florida. Mother stayed in her beloved Fort Frances.
Helen was predeceased by her parents John and Petra Kyler, sisters Lillian Green of International Falls and Lucille Olsen of Minneapolis also Helen was sadly predeceased by her niece Karen BenAlcazar of Minneapolis.
Helen is survived by her children, Frank (Evelyn) Myers, John (Sharon) Myers of Fort Frances and Janet Peters of Winnipeg.
