On April 16, 2013 Arthur John Aldin Foy of Couchiching First Nation peacefully joined his soulmate and wife Florence in heaven after a long battle with cancer.
Art, or Foy, as he was lovingly referred to by friends and relatives, will be remembered by his five sons; William (Brenda), George, Eric, and Peter; and his five daughters; Susan (Dalrey), Sharon (Dave), Shelly (Pierre), Maggie (Martin), and Tanya (Gerry). Arthur was a wonderful grandfather to forty grandchildren, over forty great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Arthur will also be remembered by his brothers-in-law Willie (Florence) Yerxa, Wayne Yerxa, and Leo Yerxa as well as his sister-in-law Marilyn Perreault. Arthur is predeceased by his wife Florence Foy, his brother Melvin King, sister Lorraine King, great grandson Mason Foy, son-in-law Elvis Smith, sisters-in-law Beatrice Kenny, Dorothy Kelly, Joyce Cantin, and his best friend Milo Olsen.
Arthur was born on April 17th, 1928 in Fort Frances, ON. He was known for his work ethic which began at a very young age and never stopped. After serving in the Korean War with PPCLI, Arthur and his wife Florence raised their family in the Fort Frances region. The family moved to Southwestern Manitoba in the 1970s and stayed there for over ten years, when they returned to Couchiching First Nation, where he was often found tinkering in his shed, building something from nothing, or enjoying the company of his friends and family. He enjoyed spending his time on the land, going up to his cabin, as well as sharing his experiences as a veteran. Arthur will be most remembered for his exceptional and unique sense of humor that he shared and passed down do his family and all those who knew him. He was a strong man who battled with cancer for ten years. Arthur spent the last year of his life in the care of his grand daughter Kathy Marie and her partner Shawn, and then last few weeks of his life in the excellent care of Rainycrest Home for the Aged.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ontario. Reverend Mr. Bob Grynol will officiate with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Couchiching First Nation, Ontario. The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Color Party will provide their tribute at the service.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ontario.
The pallbearers will be Vernon (Nug) Yerxa, Rob Foy, Kyle Braun, Javan Smith, Dakota Smith, and Mitchell Foy. The honorary pallbearers are Bill Perrault, Brenda Foy, Dalrey Smith, Dick Bird, Jack Mayor, Karen “Urb” Carpenter, Larry Bruyere, Peggy Foy, Shawn Gullason and Heike Krenn.
