Olga Katherine Zitzmann of Munroe Falls, Ohio formerly a longtime resident of Flushing, New York went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Mulberry Gardens Assisted Living with her granddaughter Nicole by her side. She was 95.
Olga was born on November 15, 1926 in Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Olga Honska. Olga is survived by her best friend and sister Jean Todd of Ocala, Florida.
Olga moved to 158th Street in Flushing when she was one year old and moved from that house at age 90. She was a graduate of Bayside High School and went on to work with Mr. Newell at Pittman-Moore Company in Manhattan and then worked as a secretary to the Presbyterian Board of Missions growing her love for Native Americans. She was married in 1951 to the late George H. Zitzmann who passed away in 2007. In 1952, Olga continued her secretarial work for the Board of Education in Amityville, NY. In 1957, she moved back into the 158th Street home. In 1970 she began working as secretary Flushing Christian School until she retired in 2005, but she continued volunteering in the FCS office 2 days a week until 2017 when she moved to Ohio.
Olga’s love for the Lord and sharing Him shone through her many and varied activities at First Presbyterian Church and Flushing Christian School: chaperoning, hosting, cooking, singing, teaching, organizing, and supporting people of all age groups. She was a deeply loved sister, wife, mom, aunt, grandma, friend, listener and prayer partner to countless people who sat at her kitchen table, stayed in her home or felt her support all to give glory to God and enjoy Him forever. Olga’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she is truly “home for Christmas.”
Olga was preceded in death by her son George P. Zitzmann who passed away in 2017. She is survived by her daughter OlgaJean Meekins and husband James of Crawford, NY and her daughter-in-law Denise Zitzmann of Munroe Falls, Ohio. Her grandchildren are Christopher (and Bethany) Zitzmann, Nicole (and Scott) Sheaffer, Bethany (and Santiago) Coloma, Jesse (and Catherine) Meekins, Joanna (and Eric) Sandve, Rebecca (and Jorge) Coloma, Joseph (and Lauren) Meekins, Naomi (and John Keith) Sheridan, and Andrew (and Maddie) Meekins. Olga has 23 greatgrandchildren and 2 on the way. And all of us call her “Blessed” Proverbs 31:28.
