Anita Bernard (nee Hirsch) was born on January 9, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY and passed away on January 27, 2020 at the age of 92. She was pre-deceased by her parents Louis and Sophie (Kivelevitch) Hirsch, her sister Selma Blumenthal, her brother Harold Hirsch and her husband, Harold Bernard. She is survived by her brother Yale Hirsch, and her daughters Stacy Bernard Davis (Rich) and Judy Bernard, and grandchildren Harrison Davis, Matthew Davis, Claire Davis (Myles Denyer), and Sophie Bernard. She is also survived by her companion Jules Speciner and his children Anne Gould (Stephen) and David Speciner (Ellen Horaitis), and granddaughter Franny Gould.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Brooklyn College, where she majored in Spanish and went on to teach Spanish at Syracuse University and then ended up in International Business. She went back to school for a Master’s in Education from Hunter College and was an early bilingual and then ESL teacher in NYC.
Anita was devoted to her family and many friends. She was an avid traveller and art and theater lover. She was always up for an adventure and loved to try new things, particularly if it involved eating or drinking.
