William J. Hartnett, age 92, of Flushing, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Bill was the beloved husband of the late Jean and a devoted father to Karen Hartnett, Linda (George) Mueller, and the late William Hartnett, whose memory is cherished by his wife, Vicky Hartnett. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Christine (Mike) Baca, William (Danielle) Hartnett, George (Irene) Mueller, and Michelle (Frank) Russo. He was adored by his great-grandchildren: Angela Hartnett, Juliana Baca, Kayla Baca, Sierra Baca, Matthew Russo, Jonathan Russo, and Ellie Hartnett.
He is survived by his sister Mary Sullivan and was predeceased by his siblings Joan Hartnett and John Hartnett.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Bill served his country during the Korean War. In his younger years growing up in Greenwich Village, he developed a love of sports. He was very athletic with his passion being in boxing. His training included running around the reservoir in Central Park. His love for sports, included football and baseball—always cheering for his damned Mets.
Family and friends are invited to honor Bill’s memory. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 9:45 AM at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 34-24 203rd Street, Bayside, NY 11361. Interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery, 163-06 46th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11358.
Bill’s kindness, devotion to family, and love of life will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
