Papa truly was one of a kind with his humor, charm, wit, sarcasm (with facial expressions that just can’t be misconstrued) and if he had something on his mind-you heard it. A handsome man who had strength and resiliency to be in awe of.  
Hearing stories from his childhood to boxing, drafted into the army and returning to a physically demanding job; strength was obvious.  Even into his 80’s he was walking a mile in the morning to play his numbers and get the paper. His continued strength, endurance and resiliency evident in later years by surviving several different cancers, the untimely death of his wife and 10 years later perhaps most difficult, the sudden death of my father; his eldest child and only son.  He had a rough go several months later that many counted him out, yet, we knew he was a man to bet on. 
He had his own style, always with a popped collar. He enjoyed sports, drinks and music, often being one of the first on the dance floor. He was always hospitable inviting others to join him to watch a game, eat, have a beer and of course “a little one”.  He would watch cartoons with the kids while having a side of candy. Most important was his love of family.
Sunday dinner at my grandparents has been a tradition for longer than I can remember. We would wait for him to initiate the “Cheers” after dinner.  A while later he would say goodnight and head up to his room but usually returned for a nightcap of chocolate milk ( his secret to a long life). 
With fond memories I will continue to raise a glass and Cheers to you Papa, because, well… “You are something! 😉”

Billy I met you when I was fourteen, my cousins boyfriend.  You became my husbands best friend and the Sunday visits the fights the met games the four of us always together.  Laughing being silly making fun of everybody.  When Richie died you took good care checking on us making sure we were okay. We thank you we love you.  Rest in peace with Jean

Mr. H. (a.k.a. the Senator from Wisconsin),

It was an honor to be a small part of your life story.  Each time we talked, I learned something new about you, your family, New York and Sports.  Who would have thought, someone in New York knew as much, if not more than me, when it comes to Wisconsin athletics.  Thank you for the many memories.  I will always cherish them.

Sending the entire Hartnett family our deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved Papa ( as we know he was called ).  Cherish the memories of the good times you all had over the years.   He will be forever in your heart.

I will miss “Mr. H” dearly. He was one of a kind, they certainly broke the mold when he was born! A loving, caring family man who put everyone else before him. I willcertainly miss sitting with him drinking little ones and watching sports. God, he was a human trivia machine, and his Saturday night Fight nights. Whether it was Ward/ Gatti, Mayweather, or his favorite, the Red Headed Mexican Canelo Alvarez! 

He is now reunited with Mrs H. and Billy in Heaven and I’m sure he is playing his numbers.  Rest in Peace Mr. H and keep and an eye over  all your family and friends! 
I will raise a Crown or two in your memory! Love ya Papa!
