Šime Kleva, beloved husband of Franica Kleva, departed from this world on April 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to Branko (Josipa) Kleva, Anthony (Branka) Kleva, John (Kelli) Kleva, and was preceded in death by his son Ignacio Kleva. Šime's life was brightened by his grandchildren Marina, Mark, Daniela, Christopher, Amanda and Logan, and he delighted in his role as great-grandfather to Ana, Steven, Valentino, Antonio, and Luciana.
Šime Kleva born to Luka and Marija Kleva in Olib Croatia on May 25, 1928 immigrated to the United States of America in 1967 with his entire family. He was the youngest of 6 siblings all who preceded him in death. Šime worked as a butcher in the meat packing district in Manhattan until his retirement in 1993 and also worked as a building superintendent for a good part of his working life to provide for his family.
Šime was also a brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched many lives. He enjoyed being with his family and friends and had a never-ending longing for his birthplace of Olib. Šime found joy in simple pleasures, whether it was cheering on his beloved Rangers or fishing with his sons and relatives.
The family of Šime Kleva will be receiving visitors at the Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Blvd., Flushing, New York 11358 on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Andrew Avellino RC Church, 35-60 158th Street, Flushing, New York 11358. Šime will be interned in his hometown of Olib, Croatia.
In honor of Šime's memory, donations to the Friends of Olib Charity, Inc. P.O. Box 30309, New York, New York 10011-0114 US, would be gratefully appreciated in lieu of flowers. Though he may no longer be with us in body, Šime's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to share in his life's journey.
