Joed was born and raised in Queens, NY. He was the son of Lorenza Lorenzo & Domingo Taveras. He is survived by his daughter, and daughter’s mother.
He graduated from the High School of Arts and Business in 2008. He then worked security at the MoMa PS1 before enlisting in the United States Army. There, he proudly served his 4 years as a Tanker, deploying in 2013. After being honorably discharged, he attended John Jay College and received his Bachelor’s of Science. He worked as hospital security in Elmhurst Hospital before becoming a Construction Laborer for DEP where he was well liked, undoubtedly trusted, and incredibly valued.
Joed lived a full life with a contagious smile and a strong sense of humor. Something many admired about him, was his confidence. He didn’t care to blast some country tunes in the middle of Queens. He was always true to his likes, style, and himself. He achieved many goals in his life, but was always right there to help the next man up. He wanted everyone around him to win. He was humble to a fault and was persistent with making those around him feel loved.
Although he was raised a city boy, he had a draw for the mountains and a big appetite for adventure. He took full advantage of being stationed in Colorado, and regularly traveled the surrounding states. From being an honored soldier at Mt. Rushmore, white knuckling the rapids of Colorado, admiring the serene views of the Redwood Forest, touring the gated hills of LA, camping in the mountains of Yellowstone, climbing the canyons in southern Utah and chowing down on MRE’s at the Grand Canyon. But after all those adventures, his greatest and proudest accomplishment in his life, was raising his daughter.
He will be immensely missed by his parents, surviving siblings: Delilah Taveras-Peña, Rudy Taveras; brother-in-law, nieces and nephew. Along with his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. This is a sudden tragic loss to the entire family, and he will be deeply missed and forever loved. Please respect the family’s wishes for privacy during this devastating time.
As Joed would always represent, let us all remember to: “Embrace the suck.”
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frederick-fh.com for the Taveras family.
