Betty Murphy, age 89, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Daughter of the late John and Mary Deane, Betty was born in County Mayo, Ireland on March 3, 1935. She immigrated to NYC in 1952 and on August 12, 1961, married Martin Murphy, who preceded her in death on February 23, 2022.
In addition to Betty’s husband of sixty years, she was a devoted sister to Sabina Armshaw and predeceased by her sisters: Mary Joyce, Briddie Flynn, Catherine O’Halloran, and Madge O’Leary as well as her three brothers: Martin, Michael, and Sean. Betty was a loving mother to Maureen, Donna, Michael, and Pam, a cherished mother-in-law to John Doss, Mayumi Takatani, and Daniel Walsh, and a doting grandmother to Matthew (Doss), Liam (Walsh), Katherine (Murphy), Jack (Walsh), and Christina (Murphy). She valued her family above all else and will be sorely missed.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, January 13th at 9:45 am at St. Kevin’s Church in Flushing, NY. In lieu of flowers (which the church will not allow), please remember Betty through a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
