Elmer was the last surviving child of Michael and Anna Slackta. He was born
September 1, 1922 and resided in Flint until 2010, growing up on
Massachusetts Street and later living on Van Wagoner Avenue and then at
Lockwood Retirement Center (Burton). He was a past member of St. Michael
Byzatine Catholic Church and renewed his faith while at Bortz Health Care
Facility in Rose City. Elmer served his country by enlisting in the U.S.
Army during World War II, serving two years in Alaska as part of the
Aleutian Islands Campaign. He is survived by several nephews and nieces who
will miss him dearly, especially his niece Jonalee (Jona), who served as his
main care provider. Elmer was preceded in death by his brothers Mike, Joe,
John, George, Steve, Paul, Nick, and Martin and his sister, Ann.
