Miriam Evelyn Cook, beloved Wife, Mother, Grammy, and Friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida, on February 25, 2023, after a courageous year and a half battle with non-smoker’s lung cancer. She was born on June 5, 1953, in Massillon, Ohio, and was the youngest of six siblings.
Mimi lived a life filled with adventure, love, and an insatiable spirit for competition. After graduating high school in 1971, she pursued her education in secretarial studies, which eventually led her to a job at the FBI. And as fate would have it, this is where she met Bill. Not long after, Mimi took to the skies as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. Bill knew that it was now or never and so he popped the question, and Mimi said yes!... and so she married the love of her life on March 2, 1974, in Miami, Florida.
Mimi’s adventurous spirit took her on countless trips around the world, most especially following Bill’s ship to various ports throughout Europe on the “Med” cruise, along with a grand venture through the Philipines with their dear friends Tom and Deb Killcline.
Together, Mimi and Bill settled into their first of several homes in San Diego, where they welcomed their children, Scott, Brett, and Caitlin, and built a life filled with sports, adventure, and love.
After “retiring” from the Navy, and seeing her kids off to college, Mimi obtained her college degree and began a successful career as a corporate event planner in San Diego. She then went on to build her and Bill’s dream home on a golf course in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she spent her days playing golf, cycling with the Flagler Flyers, and advocating for Pickleball. She became the president of the up-and-coming Pictona pickleball facility and was a much loved ambassador for the sport.
Mimi's legacy lives on through her husband, Bill, her children, their spouses, and her cherished grandchildren, Sabine, Lucy, Logan, Landon, and Piper. Her infectious spirit for adventure, love, and competition will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Rest in peace, Mimi. You will be forever missed.
