On Friday, December 3, Michael Robert Hunsaker, Christ follower, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 84 at his home in Flagler Beach, Florida, with his bride of 63 years, Carolyn Burdick Hunsaker, at his side. Born on March 20, 1937, in the Panama Canal Zone, he and his family moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he graduated high school. He attended Vanderbilt as an undergraduate and received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed advanced medical training at Johns Hopkins University Hospital and moved with his wife and children to lead the cardiac care unit in Ada, Oklahoma, where he worked for 30 years. He was a caring physician beloved by his patients. Based on his outstanding credentials, community contributions and achievements, Mike was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C).
Outside of medicine, Mike's life revolved around his family and his faith. He was a provider and spiritual leader to his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a generous friend, and church leader. Mike retired in 2001, during which time he pursued his hobbies of traveling with his wife and family, fishing, and bird watching/photography. Mike had a life-long passion for learning and loved to try new things. He lived a full life doing what he loved with the people who meant the most to him. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his mother Margaret. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, their three children, Nancy, Leigh Anne, and Robert, and four grandchildren, Michael, Cara, Ryan, and Alexandra. The family welcomes donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation as an expression of sympathy.
