On September 16, 2023, at 12:00 pm, God said “Servant your work is done”. Lay down your burdens and follow me. With a sigh, she immediately responded to the Master’s call.
Judith Searles-Miller (Judy), age 69, of Palm Coast, FL passed away surrounded by love and her family.
Judy grew up in the historical hill district neighborhood, in Pittsburgh and went on to graduate from Fifth Avenue High School. After graduating high school, Judith went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and Management from Laroche College. Prior to joining the US military, she was elected as a Council Member for her local District while also holding numerous management positions, in retail and insurance sales.
Judy served with the United States Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. During her service she earned the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
After her active-duty Judy continued to serve with the Department of Defense, as a Staff Action Officer, Army, G-2, (DAMI-IM). While working at the Pentagon Judy continued her adult education graduating from Capitol College of Maryland, earning a Master of Information and Telecommunication Systems Management degree and additionally, completed the rigorous Sustaining Base Leadership Course. Judy was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal culminating 31 years Federal Service.
Judy was also very active in her community serving on Board of Directors for Ft. Belvoir Federal Credit Union and was a life member of VFW Post 1503. Judy was a Trained Adult Boy Scout Leader who also loved gardening, arts and craft, decorating for the holidays, the Pittsburgh Steelers and most importantly, Family. Judy was a kind and generous soul whose radiant smile would light up the room. Social distancing was problematic for Judy, as she had a habit adopting people especially someone she felt was in need, so friendly.
In October of 1991, Judy met First Sergeant Theodore C Miller at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where both were on active duty. She was united with him in marriage on October 23, 1993, in Pittsburgh, PA. Surviving with her husband is her son Terrance Charles Miller; Brandie Miller of Philadelphia, PA and Teddy Miller of El Paso, TX, five grandchildren, Elijah, Jeremiah, Eniya, Kayla, and Haylee. And three great grandchildren Karson, Alianna and Jayce and godchild Caleb J Mitchell.
Judy is also survived by three sisters, Betty Thomas (James), Carrie, and Mary, and three brothers William, Gregory, and Johnnie. She also has two sisters-in laws Shirley and Torie Searles along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. Judy was preceded in death by five brothers James, Claude, Charles, Ron, and Roy and two sisters Patricia and Ramona.
