On April 8, 1950, a beautiful baby girl was born to Conrad and Florence Ramsey in the lovely Caribbean Island of Trinidad. Even as a child, she had such a love for Jesus that at eight years old she was baptized by Pastor J. T. Carrington into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
After attending the Sangre Grande Seventh-Day Adventist Elementary School, at age twelve, she graduated and was accepted into Northeastern College, a special grammar high school. From here, she proceeded to Caribbean Union College, the only Seventh-Day Adventist institution of higher learning on the island where she gained her Pre-Professional Associate Degree in 1970, and it is here, she met the love of her life, George King, a budding ministerial student. Nevertheless, she was determined to pursue her education and so migrated to the USA, to South Lancaster, Massachusetts where she obtained a Bachelor of Behavioral Science Degree in 1972, and a degree in Nursing 1973. She then went back to Trinidad to marry the love of her life which they did on June 17, 1973.
Hand in hand, they ministered effectively in the Caribbean islands of Anguilla, Dominica, Barbados and Trinidad. After serving in ministry in Dominica for five years, they returned to the United States, to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan where they both pursued graduate degrees, and in 1980, she matriculated with her Masters in Educational Psychology.
She practiced as a Registered Nurse from 1973 – 2011 in Michigan, New York, and California, but even though she enjoyed her career, her bigger joy was supporting her husband in numerous missionary endeavors. On the Caribbean Island of Anguilla, she started a youth choir and was the director of the three Pathfinder Clubs on the Island. In Barbados, she was the secretary for the Director of ADRA, Pastor Ron Hoyte. Returning to Trinidad, she was the Guidance Counselor at her Alma Mater, Caribbean Union College and also taught in the Education Department. Together, they were co-presenters at Family Life Seminars. In Nigeria, Ghana and the Philippines, while her husband led out in evangelistic crusades, she attended to the physical needs of the people by participating in medical missionary activities. At her local church, Valley Fellowship SDA in Rialto, California, she was a Sabbath School Superintendent and served as a deaconess. Finally, she served as social activities director for the Southern California Chapter of her Alma Mater, University of the Southern Caribbean (previously known as Caribbean Union College).
Mrs. Germyn King was not only actively engaged in church work, she knew how to “Come apart and rest a while,” and so she, her husband and others traveled extensively in the US, Central and South America, numerous Caribbean Islands, many countries in Africa, Europe, the Mediterranean and Israel, China and the Philippines. They also enjoyed over twenty cruises including Alaska and enjoyed just about every major cruise line.
Her life was relatively short but packed with service for her God, adventure, and most definitely taking care of her devoted husband, her two precious sons and her adorable grandkids. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of approximately 47 years, Dr. George M. King; her two sons, Dr. Kurt King (Dr. Andrea), her younger son, Kevin, a business major from La Sierra University and the University of California at Riverside; two teenaged grandchildren, Lauryn and Jonathan King; her loving brother Kynaston Ramsey (Dr. Carolyn); her devoted sister Dr. Carol Ramsey-Bernard (Aubrey); her caring brother Conrad Ramsey Jr. (Anita, deceased); and youngest brother, Vaughn Ramsey (deceased). Nephews: Ernest Wells Jr, Ronald Wells (deceased), Karlyn Ramsey (Dr. Kate), her nieces: Kyria Ramsey-Dukes (Crandall), Marissa and Cimarron Smith; her great nephew, Carter Ramsey and great nieces, Carissa and Karine Dukes, newborn Cadence Joy Ramsey, and a host of other relatives and numerous friends.
Germyn was an adoring, supportive wife, devoted mother, loving sister, elegant first lady, a friend to all and a humble servant of the most High God. Yes, it is difficult to say good bye, but by God’s grace, we will meet her in the morning, never ever again to say goodbye. So, sleep on my sister, soon you will hear the loving voice of your master calling you home. Praise God for that resurrection hope!
