Donald was born August 5, 1951 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Seckora) Longo.
Growing up in Haskell, Donald graduated from Don Bosco High School in Paterson and received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He continued to study for his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson. His work took him and his family to Charlotte, North Carolina, Washington Township in South Jersey and then to Alloway, New Jersey. Living in Alloway, they purchased a farm, where they had horses, geese, chickens and his two bird dogs. Donald grew hay in the back of the farm and enjoyed restoring Farmall tractors. You would often see him driving one of his big red tractors behind the house. As he would say, if it ain’t red, keep it in the shed! After retiring, he and his wife moved to Palm Coast, Florida in 2022.
Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting for deer and birds, guns, target shooting, cheering for the New York Yankees, watching NASCAR, and American History. He also enjoyed watching cowboy movies, the Three Stooges, Little Rascals, and loved eating steamed crabs. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah (Smith) Longo; Four children, Donald (Christine) Longo of Pittsgrove, NJ., Stacey (Larry) Ferringo of Swedsboro, NJ., Daniel (Ashley) Longo of Alloway, NJ., Jessica (Ralph) DiCicco of Palm Coast, FL; Nine grandchildren, Sophia, Caroline, Salvatore, Frankie, Cecilia, Maddie, Amelia “Tootie”, Jack and Jayce; one brother Billy (Valerie) Longo of Wanaque, NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Morgan and his nephew Joey.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, 11:00AM, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 51 Broad Street, Woodstown, New Jersey, 08098. Condolences may be sent to the Longo family by visiting www.craigflaglerpalms.com
