Margaret M. Pennington of Lansing, a Fayette County educator for almost 40 years and a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at home on Friday, January 14, 2022. She was 60 years old. Born in Washington State, Margaret grew up on Long Island, New York before she moved to West Virginia in 1979. She attended Concord University where she got her degree in education.
She began her career as an elementary teacher in 1983 where she soon met Denton Pennington. They married in 1985 and made a life together in Lansing, West Virginia. Throughout her career, she worked her way from teacher all the way up to Associate Superintendent of Personnel and Operations for the Fayette County Board of Education. Her favorite past times included precious time spent with Denton and their English Black Lab Gracie. She also loved cooking, baking, and painting ceramics with many of her friends as well as spending time each summer visiting her hometown, laughing the nights away with her younger brother Pete, her best-friend / sister-in-law Paula and their children Patrick and Olivia.
Margaret’s parents, Walter Maslinski and Myra Madigan Savarese, as well as her stepfather Phil Savarese and beloved older sister Theresa Maslinski predeceased her. She will be sorely missed by her beloved husband of 36 years, Denton Pennington, Lansing, WV; and her siblings Almira (Alan) Caen, Sun City, AZ; Peter (Paula) Maslinski, Lindenhurst, NY; Lucille (Richard) Sprague, Piedmont, OK; Antionette Savarese, Las Vegas, NV; Dale Lojas, Joliet, IL; and Jeffery (Tasha) Maslinski, Sun City, AZ. She is also survived and missed by her stepmother Patricia Maslinski, Joliet, IL, and her numerous nieces and nephews including Patrick and Olivia Maslinski, Lindenhurst, NY whom she considered to be her own children.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home in Fayetteville, WV.
A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home.
Following the celebration of Margaret's life, she will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered throughout some of her favorite places in West Virginia and New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to a scholarship fund that will be set up in Margaret Pennington’s name. Donations in the form of a check can be made payable to the Margaret M. Pennington Scholarship Fund and mailed to the Fayette County Schools Central Office, Attention: Aimee Shumate, 111 Fayette Ave., Fayetteville, WV 25840.
