I lived next door the Margaret growing up.  I always remember her as friendly, polite and soft spoken.  I will always remember her fondly.  RIP Margaret.

I am so sorry hearing of her passing.  We grew up next door to each other.  I always will remember her smile and friendliness.  She was so sweet.  Again my condolences on the anniversary of her passing.

I had the privilege to work with Margaret at SavMor in Fayetteville 30 years ago! I immediately knew she had a presence. She was funny beautiful and always talking about her family mostly her brother! One day she said I can’t burp and of course me who knows nothing said drink Dr. Pepper it will work. Now clearly  she is a well respected educator leader and beautiful woman who loves Denton Pennington yes but still….we had Dr. Pepper!

Margaret made a lasting impression on so many people’s lives. She was definitely an asset to Fayette County Schools and will be hard to replace. May you Rest In Peace, Momma.



Mrs. Pennington was the principal at Valley Elementary when our daughters were there. She was a firm, fair, kind, and compassionate leader who cared deeply for each child that walked through those doors. We appreciate that part of her career was spent in the Upper Kanawha Valley molding and guiding the lives of so  many children.

We pray that wonderful memories of your beloved Margaret will ease the pain of her passing. 

I remember being in my first professional development meeting with Margaret. I left that room thinking, "now there is a presenter." That was when she was wearing her hair in a bun on top of her head. She was so beautiful. She was also so warm, articulate, and professional. We grew to be close over the years. One year she came to my school with a RIF notice for me. When I was called to the office, I thought that I was receiving flowers from my husband because it was my birthday. That day, that RIF, remained a running joke for years. Margaret and Mr. Dials interviewed me from Aruba for the principal position in Ansted.  I fondly remember the phone conversation which was unlike any interview I’ve ever had. The three of us laughed throughout the interview and became instant friends. By the end of the conversation Mr. Dials asked, “How soon can you get here?”  Since leaving  Fayette County, Margaret and I have kept in touch. Her personality was always cheerful and I know I will miss her.

Margaret was someone so many people were glad to know. I am one of those people. She was so caring, thoughtful and supportive of all those with whom she worked. When I retired, she sent me a beautiful greeting card enclosed with gift cards for dinner and a movie.   I always received a hug from her when we met. Sad to remember the last hug would be recently at the Meadow Bridge groundbreaking ceremony. Sincere sympathy to Denton and other members of her family. I will miss her.

So many colleagues can remark on conversations that were given by you to reassure those that were not sure footed in decision-making. Although you were valuable at work, the pictures shared by family proves how much you were loved. There is an old Native American saying that I believe fits you perfectly: “When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.”  Although we have cried because of the suddenness, I truly believe that Heaven has grown sweeter since your arrival. Ms. Pennington was truly a sweet lady.

My brother marrying Margaret Maslinski was the smartest thing he ever did. She was the best of all things, always there when you needed her. She was a great teacher who inspired my daughter to follow in her footsteps in education. She led schools as a principal and was exemplary in her job as Associate Superintendent of Personnel for Fayette County Schools.  Her greatest  attribute was finding goodness and acceptance in everyone. We loved her dearly. A crater will be forever left in our hearts.    Love,Sister-in-law  Becky Absher and David Absher   



Margaret Pennington was fun, fun-loving, mischievous, and a bit of a diva. This was irrefutably proven by her makeup, nails and wardrobe. Basically everything about her screamed out that Fayette County’s resident New Yorker was in the house. However, when she started canning, baking and living “out Lansing,” she became forever ours; she had lived in WV long enough to bleed gold and blue. 
When I first met Margaret, I liked her instantly; her sense of humor and intelligence, topped with just the right amount of irreverence told me that she was my kind of girl. Trust me, you wanted Margaret Pennington on your side. I respected, trusted and admired the professional Margaret, a class act; but I adored the fun Margaret. Her laughter filled any room, but I lived for her sidelong glances.
Once upon a time, Margaret played the queen to my daughter Shannon’s Princess Poppy in a play at the Historic Fayette Theater. I remarked that playing a queen wasn’t much of a stretch for her; she immediately rose, looked at me and held out her ring to be kissed.
 “You never forget someone who is nice to you when you were a child,” Shannon said. “She was just something special.“

And special Margaret Pennington was – a gift to her colleagues in West Virginia, to her friends, to her family, but most of all to the many students whose lives she touched.
  

I met Margaret shortly after she was named Personnel Director of Fayette County Schools. We quickly became friends and “cohorts in crime,” as School Personnel is a lonely place to be in WV.  Margaret was such a pleasant and classy lady. She often talked about you, Denton, and it was very obvious you are the love of her life. I pray you find peace and comfort in the days and weeks to come. May Margaret Rest In Peace, Amen.

Margaret was a enthusiastic educator and knowledgeable administrator as well as a friend. She always took time to listen and help in any way possible. She was a beautiful lady. Larry and I will miss her.  

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Pennington in 2000, when I started to work at Valley Elementary as Kindergarten aide.  Mrs. Pennington was very kind and thoughtful.  When I got married 12 years ago, she sent my husband and me a beautiful card and gift.  I will treasure it forever.  She was not only the principal,  but she was also my friend.  I will truly miss you.  I pray for comfort and strength for all of you, now and in the days ahead.


Heaven gained a beautiful soul, but we lost one much too early.  You will be missed tremendously.  I loved your funny stories you shared of your early days in teaching, and admired your dignity and strength through the tough times our county faced over the years.  I always knew you cared for all of us and had our back when needed, and kept us straight when we did not perform to our upmost finest.  Enjoy your heavenly home. I met Margaret on our first day at Concord over 38 years ago.  We became fast friends and remained friends over the years.  It didn't matter how much times passed between our visits, it was like we were back in college sharing stories, laughter and fun.  She shared in the good times in my life and helped me through the bad. She was a true friend that I will never get over losing.  Until we meet again.....I look forward to catching up.  

I had the utmost respect for Margaret. She was always kind and so helpful to me as a teacher in Fayette County.  What a wonderful role model for adults and students as well! Prayers for strength and peace during this difficult time.

Margaret was one of a kind. I have had the pleasure of knowing her for 12 years and wouldn't trade a day! Her kindness and uplifting personality is something we all should strive to have! If I end up being half the person she was,  my life will be complete. Denton and Gracie are in my prayers and thoughts because I cant imagine the pain they feel!!!! The community and education world will miss her dearly. 

We may not have been blood, but for the past 32 years you have been my sister.  You've been my rock,  You will always be "my person".

I had the privilege of meeting Margaret 29 years ago and becoming her hairstylist… it’s not every day you are fortunate enough to meet such and amazing person … she was the sweetest,kindness, most beautiful person inside and out .. I will always think of her with a warmth in my heart .. heaven most definitely gained and angel .. I will miss her immensely.. she loved her family more than anything I loved to hear all about them .. my thoughts are with all of you .. love and prayers 

For family health reasons I am unable to attend Friday’s visitation and celebration of Margaret’s life. 

In my experience as a school attorney at the Bowles Rice law firm, Margaret was the best of the best of people devoted to public education: an accomplished and consummate professional who never lost sight of the impact of her work on individual students and school employees. 

Including my last visit with her at the December conference in Lewisburg, Margaret always — always — brightened the room with her positive outlook, good humor, and dedication to the highest standards in her chosen field. She brought out the best in me and countless others. Margaret’s deep love of family shone bright in conversation. 

We grieve her death, will never forget her, and are so grateful to have known and worked with her.  Rest In Peace, Margaret my friend. 


We met Margaret at Concord wher she roomed with Lisa for a few semesters. She came home to Poca with us one weekend and petted my father's new calf which we named Maggie.

I will always remember Margaret for her great hugs, amazing personality, and beautiful smile. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to spend some very special times and celebrations with Margaret. You will be greatly missed. Keep smiling down on us my friend. So very sorry to learn of Margaret's passing.  As a former and retired educator in Fayette County, I had numerous occasions to touch base with her.  Always the true professional and most of all a true friend.
May the love and mercy of our Lord be bestowed upon the family during this unfortunate time.

Condolences to the family and friends of Margaret. She was such a nice and helpful person in the education field. She personally helped me numerous times as principal at Valley Elementary and later in her role as Personnel Director. She loved helping people get involved in education. Godspeed my friend.

As a former union rep for WVEA of which Margaret was a former member, I got to know Margaret during meetings with my members  some with good outcomes some not.  I always respected her and her professionalism with her job which was not an easy one.
We had talks about our personal lives after the meetings and I count her as a friend. She was a bright light in Fayette County.

Thank you Mrs. Pennington for all that you have done for me over these past 21 years, from the age of 5 up until my age now. You were my Elementary School Principal in 2000 and then became my boss in 2019. I'm forever grateful to have gotten to know you! Heaven definitely got better with you there! Love,

Margaret was my next door neighbor growing up.  This is truly a shock to me as Margaret was a beautiful person. This was to be the last “family” vacation both Marge and I, would get to take with Mom, Dad and Toni. We had a great time. After Action Park we stopped at Rye Play-land on our way back home. I will always treasure our days sunning in the back yard or at the beach. That beautiful face will always be before me, l love you my sister and I miss you beyond words, my heart will never be the same.

I’ll never forget this trip. You told me you would take me anywhere after I graduated elementary school. I chose Washington, D.C., which ended up being the perfect place for me. It was blazing hot and we melted every step of the way. We took a dinner boat ride on the Potomac and a monuments by moonlight tour. We’ve laughed for years about me telling the stranger on the MetroBus that we didn’t have enough money to ride although I meant we didn’t have the exact change needed to ride. You were mortified and I told you we’d never see her again. Then she walked up to us at the restaurant where we had dinner. We’ve laughed about it ever since. This was one of my favorite times with you. 

I will miss you forever my friend. You will always be a part of my life and you will always be in my heart. From that first camping trip to the always warm  wishes! Peace to you and your family. MARK PERRY.

May the Angels camp around the family at this time. She was a dear colleague to my sister. My family will remember her fondly as she demonstrated her beauty and compassion many times over the years to us, especially when our mother passed. Her light will always shine!
