Jim Vandal of Oak Hill passed away peacefully on February 10, 2022 at Bowers Hospice House after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s with Lewy Body Dementia.
Jim was born in Jumping Branch, WV to the late James Ray Vandal, Sr. and Rheda Crook Vandal.
Jim was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He retired from the WV Parkways Authority having been a toll collector for 23 years at Barrier B. After retirement, he was a substitute bus driver, a substitute cook for the Fayette County Board of Education, and worked part time at Lowes.
Jim was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Rheda Vandal and his father-in-law, Carl Riner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pam Riner Vandal; son Preston and Katelyn Vandal, and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Carly Jane Vandal, who brought him much love and joy. Jim had just found out he would have his greatly anticipated grandson in August 2022. This brought a smile to his face.
Other survivors include his sister, Sandra Doran and husband Joel and their daughter, Darla; brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews: Pat Riner McCallister and her son Wes Burdette; daughter, Stacey and Chris Johns and their son, Creighton; Russie Riner Bennett and her daughter, Jamie Forman and John McCarthy and her son Will Forman; Cecil Riner and Lillian Atkinson and his children: Mitzi and Daniel Currie and her children Jacob and Alexis Crouse, Josh Feazell and Julie Wingard, Jonathan and Kim Riner and their children Jaxon and Ellie, Jahden and Melissa Riner and their daughter Macie, Sam and Denise Riner and their children Ashlee Riner and Steve Zhou, Noah Riner and fiancée Emily Tonello; and mother-in-law, Sandra Riner.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 6 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor John Jordan officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm after the visitation on Friday.
