Sardul Singh Chhina

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable man, Sardul Singh Chhina, who peacefully departed this world at the age of 77 on September 22, 2023, in Richmond, VA. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 49 years, his children, grandchildren, and siblings.

Born on July 15, 1946, in District Amritsar, Punjab to Rachpal Singh Chhina and Baljit Kaur Chhina, Sardul Singh exemplified the essence of humility and grace. He was the eldest son of 6 siblings and was a beacon of humbleness, compassion, and unwavering kindness throughout his life.

Sardul Singh studied Pharmacy and achieved the prestigious Gold Medalist Award from Punjab University. He furthered his pharmaceutical studies after immigrating to the United States in 1971. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he moved to Colonial Beach, VA where he successfully owned and operated his own pharmacy for many years while pursuing his creative hobbies. Sardul Singh was a published author, avid reader, culinary master, life-learner, and loved living on the bank of the Potomac River where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing.

Belonging to the Sikh faith, he held a profound belief in the universal power of prayer and maintained a deep respect for all religions. His love for humanity was boundless as he spent his life selflessly serving others by being active in many organizations and helping countless families immigrate to the US from Punjab, without ever seeking recognition or reward.

Sardul Singh found joy in small things and possessed a unique ability to turn challenges into opportunities. He enjoyed sharing experiences with others, through food, laughter, knowledge and wisdom. He was a source of guidance, a patient teacher, and a trusted friend to many. He was an amazing father, husband, and grandfather, who loved us fully and unconditionally.

Sardul Singh is survived by his wife, Surinder Pal Chhina, his son and daughter-in-law, Navjeet Singh & Arshdeep Ruby Chhina, his daughter and son-in-law, Joy & Amitoj Singh, and his grandchildren, Zarah Maya Singh, Sunsaar Singh Chhina, and Ayden Paul Singh.

A celebration of Sardul Singh Chhina’s life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 10a-12p at the National Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA followed by Antam Ardas and Bhog at the Sikh Foundation of Virginia from 1:30 to 3:30p at 7250 Ox Road, in Burke, VA.

We are grateful for the privilege of having Sardul Singh Chhina in our lives. He leaves behind a profound legacy of selflessness, humor, wisdom and unconditional love. May we honor his memory by emulating the qualities that made him the exceptional person he was.
