Patrick F. Minan

Patrick Francis Minan, 70, of Southport, NC and previously of Falls Church, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 after a brief but courageous battle with Leukemia. Pat was born in New York to Lester and Margaret Minan on January 30, 1950. He grew up in both New York and Northern Virginia and graduated from high school in Ramapo, New Jersey. Anyone who knew Pat, was sure to hear of his pride for his alma matter, University of Notre Dame, where he graduated in 1972. He was known for making his daughters sing the ND fight song upon demand, usually in public. Pat met his bride Nancy Hegyi in 1973 and they spent the next 47 years side by side. Together they raised 3 daughters; Meghan (Doug), Katie (John) and Colleen – and over the past twelve years have relished their role as grandparents to 3 granddaughters (Maeve, Margaret, & Fiona) and namesake grandson Patrick. He is also survived by his 3 sisters and 2 brothers, their spouses, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. For his entire 38 year career, Patrick worked at Ernst & Young, where he retired as partner in 2010; and enjoyed his last 10 years working for EY America’s Independence in NYC. Many a Broadway show and trips to “the Dump” for Paddy’s Penne were had. Retirement was spent as it should have been, traveling the world with Nancy and lifelong friends the McNeils. Australia, China, Africa and multiple trips to Ireland were some highlights. His decades long friendships with the SJS Crew, 4PS and Ireland Golf Groups, and the First Friday Dinner group are filled with memories of PaddyFitzhughs, the annual Christmas Parties at Pub Minan in Falls Church, and early morning golf games, many of which were touted to be “his last round ever!” A lifelong fan of the team formerly known as the Redskins; he was also a Caps fan before it was cool. Lots of nights spent with his girls at the Caps Centre (with a stop at Marios on the way home, obviously). Pat was also a music man – loved to play, loved to listen. He instilled this in his daughters, while always reminding them that his music choices were the better ones. A girls soccer coach, the toughest diving judge, PTO president, and WGCC Club President– he always found the extra time to give back to his family and his community. There will be a family burial this month with a celebration of life to following in 2021 when all who loved him can share a pint and a story together.
