Michael Hunt Walker, age 72, passed away suddenly on November 17, 2018 at INOVA Mt Vernon Rehabilitation Hospital. He was born in Lynchburg, VA in April 1946, the son of Preston and Helen Walker. As a young boy he moved to Washington, DC and later to Falls Church, VA. Mike attended Falls Church High School and Virginia Tech.
In 1968, he became an apprentice electrician with Local 26. After graduation, Michael joined his father’s company, Walker Electric Company and eventually became CEO until his retirement in 2010.
Mike was a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association for over 20 years. He served in the capacity of every major office and in addition, he served as a Trustee on two different funds---the Residential Labor Management Committee and the Inside Labor Management Committee. He was very devoted to NECA and because of this was inducted into the Academy of Electrical Contractors in 1995.
Mike was hardworking, generous, and always had a positive outlook with a smile on his face. He loved to tell a good story or joke to anyone who would listen. He loved to travel, hunt, fish and work on his many wood working projects. Recently, he went on a trip with his son and family to Budapest, which he called “the trip of a lifetime”. Mike will surely be missed by people from all walks of life both young and old. He especially enjoyed going to his house in Myrtle Beach with the grandkids. He enjoyed walking the beach looking for sharks teeth and shells.
