On September 25, 2023, Louise Brown Plaugher (“Brownie”), a lifetime resident of Dunn Loring, Virginia, entered the gates of Heaven glorifying Jesus and reuniting with loved ones who had passed before her. For 92 years, she served as a blessing and role model of Christ for those who knew her. Born on January 15, 1931 in Washington, D.C to G. Frazier and Bessie Worley, Brownie was the third out of four children. Her parents and her siblings, Martha Nolan, G. Ray Worley, and Clayborne Worley, all predeceased her in death.
She was a 1948 graduate of Falls Church High School, a member of Dunn Loring United Methodist Church for 73 years and most recently a member of Capital Church. Singing alto beautifully from the choir loft, Brownie was a proud member of the church choir for over 63 years. From her home in Dunn Loring, Brownie, along with her mother, impacted children by teaching kindergarten and nursery school. Furthermore, her passion for teaching led her to teach Sunday School for 36 years.
Brownie’s life was defined by her love for Christ and her family. On March 25, 1950, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Richard “Stanley” Plaugher, Sr.. Stanley and Brownie were married for 54 years and went on to have six children, Richard Plaugher, Jr. (Brenda), Douglas Plaugher, Deborah Slater (Peter), Martha Jones (Steve), Paul Plaugher (Cheryl), and Karen Kelly (Mike) and her amazing caregiver and eldest grandchild, Corrie Plaugher. Brownie’s legacy also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will fondly remember her singing hymns on Christmas in the living room, going on adventures from the mountains to the beach, and instilling the love of Jesus Christ in her family, friends, and all those she met.
Welcoming her to Heaven with open arms include her love, Stanley Plaugher, her sons, Richard and Doug Plaugher, son-in-law, Kevin McCracken, daughter-in-law, Deborah Plaugher, and granddaughter, Faith Kelly. Whether you called her “Brownie,” “mom,” or “grandma,” she blessed all that met her and will be sorely missed.
