Linda Madge Martin was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Linda passed away peacefully on February 27, 2022 with her children by her side at the age of 70 after a short but valiant battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Madison, Indiana and moved to northern Virginia to work for the FBI. She met her late husband John when they were both working at the Library of Congress. While they were hesitant at first to start dating because they worked together, they had their first date at the Seaport Inn on King Street and the rest is history. In the 42 years they were married, Linda and John loved traveling together (and later with their children), with particular soft spots for Maine, Indiana, California, Florida, and Tennessee.
Linda worked at the Library of Congress for 33 years and remained extremely active after her retirement with her many passions and hobbies; she was a member of Dulin Methodist Church, Master Gardeners, Falls Church Garden Club, Rock Spring Garden Club, and the Herb Society of America (just to name a few). She enjoyed gardening, baking, serving as an usher at church, owls, butterflies, and all things lavender.
Linda loved spending time with her two children, Erin McFarland and Nathan Martin, and playing with her two grandchildren, Liam & Madeline McFarland. Linda was a connector and left an impact on so many people. She will be missed dearly but her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband John and thanks all her friends for sharing such kind words about how Linda touched their lives.
A memorial service for Linda will be held Monday, March 7, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, followed by a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:15 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NationalFH-MP.com for the Martin family.
