Helen was born Arlington, VA to Homer Samuel and Mary Agnes (Kelly) Stevens on July 27, 1919. She married Harvey D. Payne on May 21, 1950 in Washington, D.C.. She graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1938 and attended Strayer college.
She worked as a Secretary for HAJOCA Plumbing and Supply for nearly 40 years.
She was involved in Ballston Baptist Church since 1937. Throughout the years, she held several positions at the church: financial secretary, church clerk, and Sunday school teacher. She served on several committees and especially loved helping with Vacation Bible School. She received an honor from the church in 2006 for her many years of church service.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Homer Samuel Stevens and Mary Agnes (Kelly) Stevens; Husband, Harvey D. Payne, and sons, Archie P. Payne and Donald S. Payne. Brothers: Francis R. Stevens (Marge), Homer J. Stevens (Edna). Sister: Mary Catherine (Stevens) Hovermill (Harry).
Helen is survived by son Harvey W. Payne (Teresa, grandchildren Lauren and Blake), daughter Mary (Payne) Gibson (George, grandchildren Adam (great-grandchildren Aubrey and Trent), Jonathan (great-grandchildren Grace, Taylor, and Blair), and Ryan. Sondra (Archie Payne) (Grandchildren Sean (great-grandchildren Holden, Grey and Vera) and Shannon). Many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Adam Gibson, Jonathan Gibson, Ryan Gibson, Sean Payne, Blake Payne, Ryan Hamidi, and honorary, Trent Gibson.
