Dorothy Rose Mikolajczyk

Dorothy (Dottie) Rose Mikolajczyk, 77, of Washington DC passed away suddenly on July 31, 2022 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. She was surrounded by family and friends in the days leading up to her passing. Dorothy was born in Corning, NY on May 25, 1945 and grew up at the Children's Home in Bradford, PA where she attended Bradford Area Senior High School, class of 1963.

Dorothy earned her Business Degree from Olean Business Institute in 1964 and went on to work for Social Security for over 20 years (Olean, NY), Executive Assistant to the President of St. Bonaventure University (Olean, NY), Cutco Corperation (Olean, NY), Patient Concierge at Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington, VA) and Capital Caring Hospice Volunteer (Arlington, VA). Prior to COVID, volunteering at Hospice was her true calling and she treasured being able to comfort others in their time of need.

In addition to a number of good friends, Dorothy leaves behind her son, Scott F. Mikolajczyk of Washington DC, son-in-law Micah Stein-Verbit and her beloved grandson, Eliott (Eli) Brooks Stein.

Dorothy's siblings included Charles Swartz (deceased), Donald Swartz (deceased), Mary Jane Swartz (deceased), Carolyn Swartz (deceased), John Bresett (deceased), Ken Bresett (deceased), Raymond Bresett, Vie Bradley, Betty Lavin and William Swartz. After graduating from high school, Dorothy moved in with Esther Brooks, who served as a surrogate mother and helped to guide her until her passing in 1995.

A viewing and service will be held from 10am - 12pm on August 20, 2022 at National Funeral Home located at 7482 Lee Highway in Falls Church, VA 22042.
