National Funeral Home & Memorial Park
We are saddened to announce the passing of David John Aune on March 21, 2021. Dave was born February 3, 1952 to Wilfred Aune and Donna Zimmerman in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Missouri, graduating from Webster Groves High School, and going on to earn his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Missouri.
Dave worked as a Statistician for the National Agriculture Statistics Service, a branch of the USDA, for 40 years before retiring in 2013. His job took him and his family to Lincoln, NE, Lansing, MI, and Madison, WI, before settling in Northern Virginia in 1991.
Sports have always been a big part of Dave’s life, from playing recreational sports growing up and throughout early adulthood, to watching and coaching his children’s and grandchildren’s youth sports, to his love of the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues. He also loved trivia and games, and would often be found in retirement working on a crossword or jigsaw puzzle. He was known for his dry sense of humor and quick wit.
Dave is survived by his wife, Cindy; mother, Donna; brother, Bob and wife Pat; sister, Martha and husband Joe; son Matthew and wife Melissa; daughter Amanda and husband Jonathan; and grandchildren, Landon, Olivia, Reagan, and Mason.
A small, outdoor service will be held at National Memorial Park (7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA) on Wednesday, March 31st at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David Aune can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
