GOODSON ANNE LORENA DONOVAN GOODSON A longtime resident of Falls Church, died peacefully on Saturday, March 2, at the age of 104, surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late John T. L. Donovan and Anne Holt Donovan, she was born on November 28, 1908, in East Orange, NJ. In 1918, she came to live in Falls Church with her family. After graduation from Notre Dame Academy in Washington, DC, she worked for the federal government in the Home Owner's Loan Corporation. In 1946, she married Samuel Walter Goodson, who predeceased her. An active member of St. James Catholic Church for many years, she edited the parish newsletter and wrote a history of St. James for the Falls Church Tricentennial Commission. She also began an annual parish art show and organized it for 24 years. Anne had a gift for writing, and, in addition to composing poetry all her life, she served as publicity chairperson for the Women of St. James, editing their newsletter and two cookbooks. She also edited newsletters for the O'Connell High School PTO and the auxiliary of HOPE of Northern Virginia. In the 1960's, Anne served on the board of the Falls Church Public Library. She is survived by her daughters Anne Goodson Ribble and her husband Frederick, of Charlottesville, Mary Flora Goodson of Alexandria, Elizabeth Goodson of Warrenton, and Lorena Goodson Markowski and her husband Stephen, of Midlothian. She is also survived by her grandchildren Stephen Samuel Markowski, Anne Markowski Bonney and her husband Ryan, Mary Lorena Ribble, and Elizabeth Ribble, as well as a nephew and three nieces and many great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will greet friends at Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, VA, on Friday, March 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, Falls Church, VA, on Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
