AUX SOINS DE
Murphy Funeral Homes
After a long life of honesty, service and devotion, Al Giroux passed away peacefully at his home in Falls Church, VA with family by his side. He leaves behind a proud legacy that will live on through his family, who will strive to honor his memory by following his example. His children, Jeanette, Isabel (Jim), Arthur (Glenda), Marie (Peter), and Paul (Marny), his grandchildren, Kateri (Dennis), Annette, Mary (Ryan), Jason, Sara, Keith, Derek, Orion (Lorena), JP, Corinne, and Luke, his great-grandson, Tanner, and his surviving siblings, Mary Carroll and Ray (Pat) already miss Al.
Al was born in Quebec and grew up with eight siblings in Detroit. He worked from a young age delivering milk and U.S. mail, and followed four older brothers into military service during World War II, training as a navigator. He attended the University of Detroit on the GI Bill, receiving a degree in Accounting. His duty to his country continued as he embarked on a long career with the IRS, which took him from Detroit to postings in the Philippines, Mexico, England, Venezuela, and Washington, DC. Before going to The Philippines, he married Isabel Early of Connecticut, a nurse who shared his Catholic faith, his adventurous spirit, and his undeniable calling to lovingly raise a large family. Throughout their world travels, Al and Isabel always sought out community, culture, volunteer positions, and bargains.
In 1978, Al and Isabel moved to their final home in Falls Church, VA. Al retired at age 56, which gave him more time to dedicate to his wife, kids and grandkids. He found time for volunteering, golf, travel, a depression glass business, poker, crosswords and Sudoku, but family remained his passion.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 6 - 8 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA. A funeral mass will follow on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 12 PM at St. Philip Catholic Church, 7500 St. Philips Ct., Falls Church, VA.
