Roland Longchamp, “Pepe,” age 89, of Fall River, passed away, January 15, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Imelda (St. Onge) Longchamp, longtime companion of the late Florence (Hamer) Homol and companion of Loretta Desilets.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Alphonse and Clemence (Bonnier) Longchamp, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church.
A Veteran of the United States Army he served during World War II. He worked as a Rigger and Steeple Jack for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts before retiring in 1979. His last job before retirement was applying the gold leaf to the state capital building in Boston. Following retirement he worked as a cook at Mildred’s Chowder House in Hyannis and actually made chowder for the Kennedy’s. He volunteered at Citizens for Citizens Foster Grandparent Program for 23 years.
Mr. Longchamp was the vice commander at the William S. Green, D.A.V, Chapter 9, a former Grand Mason, a member of the Blind Veterans Association and the Retired State Employee’s. He was fluent in five different languages, German, Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, golfing, drawing, traveling cross country, camping, and most all spending time with his family.
He is survived by four daughters; Susan Keenan and her husband Edward of Providence, Deborah Tibi and her husband David of Fall River, Darlene Stark of Somerset, Geraldine Pace and her husband Tim of Honey Path, NC, and his “number one son,” Gary Haskins, one sister; Doris Phillips of NV, ten grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Virginia Homol and brother of the late Raymond, Normand, and Oliver Longchamps and Clara Lizzotte.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00AM in St. Bernadette’s Church, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River. Visiting hours prior to his Mass from 8:30 to 10:30AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Burial private.
