Luther S. Norman, age 100, formerly of New Bedford and Fall River, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 in the New Bedford Jewish Home just days short of his 101st birthday. He was the husband of Geraldine (Hallett) Norman and the late Eleanor F. (Little) Norman.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Percy G. and Dora D. (Paquette) Norman, he was employed with the former Firestone Rubber & Tire Company in Fall River for 15 years. He was later employed as a Community Service Officer with the Fall River Police Department for many years before moving into an Administrative Assistant position within the department.
Mr. Norman served his country in the United States Merchant Marines from 1941-1942, then joined the United States Navy Medical Corps during World War II from 1942-1946 and the Korean Conflict from 1950-1953. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1531 in New Bedford.
He is survived by his four children David S. Norman and his wife Jayne of Fall River, Dean S. Norman and his wife Wendy of Swansea, Nancy Sapp (late husband Dennis) of Portsmouth, RI and Dana S. Norman and his wife Pamela of Johnston, RI; two sisters Viola Hoar of Assonet and Anita Ford of Texas; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Luther was the grandfather of the late Stephan A. Sapp and brother of the late Mary, Bertha, Dot, Ethel and Arthur Norman.
