Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Edward and Ellen (Berg) Freeman.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, John served his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he enjoyed a distinguished career as a Nuclear Engineer with Stone & Webster, where he worked for many years.
John was an active member of several local organizations, including the UMass Dartmouth Alumni Association, the Over the Hill Gang, and the Durfee Bell Society. His passion for life extended beyond his work and community involvement. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics and was known for his love of basketball, often spending hours watching games and discussing the sport with friends and family.
At home, John enjoyed staying busy with various projects around the house, always with a keen eye for detail. He also cherished the time spent with his family, friends, and two beloved cats, Lucy and Miss Kitty, who brought him much joy and companionship.
He is survived by his children: Michael W. Freeman of Orlando, FL, Kerri E. Shaughnessy of Daytona Beach, FL and Lynda S. Guertin of Daytona Beach, FL; his granddaughter, Brooke Thompson of Daytona Beach FL, his great grandchildren, Tiffany, Kyroh and Ziyon Thompson, his brother-in-law, Richard Fyans of Narragansett, RI, his sister-in-law Joan Freeman of Utica, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carole A. Fyans and Edward H. Freeman.
