Isabelle “Betty” (Medeiros) Barreto, age 97, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio G. Barreto to whom she was married for 69 years.
Born in North Tiverton, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary (Braga) Medeiros.
Betty was employed at the Portsmouth Abbey School, working until the age of 95 in Dining Services. Betty loved and cherished all of her Abbey family and touched the lives of so many who passed through the Stillman Dining Hall and Tuck Shop. Betty always shared smiles, kind words and hugs for all. It was not a job to Betty but she did what she loved most, feeding her extended family.
Betty loved and enjoyed her family, and adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was everyone’s Nana, regardless of relation.
Betty enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her friends at the Flint and Niagra Senior Centers. She had a love for travel and continued to travel until her passing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Gosson, Colleen Welch Preston (husband Robert), son Stephen K. Barreto Sr., her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Michael Barreto and sister of the late Lena Alvarnas, Alice Piche, Adeline Adams, Mary Farias, Lucy Medeiros, John, Kasimro and Manuel Medeiros.
Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 9:00 am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a Mass at 10:00 am in Espirito Santo, 311 Alden Street, Fall River. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
