Born in San Marco dei Cavoti, Benevento, Italy, he was a son of the late Ferminio and Palmina (Fucci) Consonni. He moved to the United States in 1964.
Giovanni was a communicant of the former Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church. He would always volunteer to make the pizza for the many “Festa Italiana” church festivals. He worked for many years as a baker throughout Fall River, most notably at Plourde’s, Bertha’s, Terminal, Leddy’s and Levesque’s Bakeries. He also enjoyed gardening, but most of all, he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family at the Sunday dinner table.
He is survived by his children: Palmina Levesque and her husband Alan of Fall River, Diodoro “Ted” Consonni of Fall River and Gina Consonni-Cates and her husband Donald of Fall River; his grandchildren: Aubrey Levesque and her fiancé Dr. Jacob Kress, Nina Varao and her husband Mitchell, Angela Consonni and her fiancé Moises Perez; his great grandson, Giovanni Varao; his sister, Angelina Soriano of Guelph, Ontario; his sisters-in-law: Natalina Consonni of Guelph, Ontario, Concetta Consonni of St. Catharines, Ontario and Oresta Autote of Merrimack, NH along with several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Antonio “Tony” Consonni, brother of the late Antonio Consonni and Ottavio Consonni and brother-in-law of the late Nicola Soriano and Wilfred Autote.
His funeral will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
