Dorothy “Toby” T. (Clark) Hamel, age 87, of Assonet, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was the wife of the late Ronald Hamel and the former wife of the late Gerald St. Hilaire. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Cox) Clark.
Toby worked as a Crossing Guard for Brayton Ave School prior to the 20 years she spent as a Machine Operator for the Garment Workers Union.
She was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed reading and was a former Cub Scout Leader, Pack 12.
Toby is survived by three children, Donna Fernandes and her husband Michael of Westport, Michael Hannan and his companion Michelle of Fall River and Robert St. Hilaire and his companion Debra of Boston; one sister, Alice Costa of Fall River; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was the grandmother of the late Kristen Leigh Fernandes and Michael Hannan and sister of the late Madeline Hallal, Geraldine Cordeiro and Claire Joseph.
Toby’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the South Coast Visiting Nurses Association for the excellent care and compassion shown to their mother.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard’s Church, 30 S Main St, Assonet. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting hours are Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited and the family requests that masks be worn to help protect those that are vulnerable.
