Ruben M. Longoria

Ruben was known more than anything as a lifelong law enforcement official. He began his career with the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1967. In 1973, he married Mary Longoria. After his father passed, he left Corpus to be closer to his mother in his hometown of Falfurrias. He garnered a position with the Falfurrias Police Department as a patrolman and moved through the ranks and became Chief of Police. In 1993, he was elected by The People of Brooks County as their Sheriff, his most defining position and the one he held dearest to his heart. Even when his time as Sheriff came to an end, he still wanted to serve and watch over the community he came to love and was thereafter elected Constable. In 2019, he made the hard decision to retire as Constable and close the great and enduring chapter of his 52 years of service as a Police Officer.

Ruben is survived by his wife, Mary, who cared for him for 47 years until the end of his life. Ruben fathered 8 children: Rudy, Linda, Ruben, Ricky, John, Joseph, Robert, and Max. He is further survived by 33 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and his brother, Robert. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rey Longoria.

Ruben was best known as a great and caring man who loved his family and devoted himself to his beloved community of Brooks County. He always made sure to enjoy the little things we may take for granted and was a standing example of dedication and hard work. He enjoyed mornings drinking coffee with his group of friends and telling stories and discussing life, afternoons tending to his animals, and nights spending time with his grandchildren. Ruben is known for his white cowboy hat, cleaned pressed shirt, and highly polished boots while forever looking over his family and community whether on-duty or off-duty.
