Margaret Wright Montz Jeffers, 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on February 16, 1924 in Falfurrias to the late Lela and Eugene Wright. She graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1941.
She married James R. (Dick) Montz in March of 1949. Together they had three children and ran the Falfurrias Electric Company for many years. Dick preceded her in death in 1967.
She married Homer A. Jeffers in 1970. They enjoyed two years of marriage prior to his death.
Margaret or Aunt Mag as she was known to her many nieces and nephews always loved having friends and family over for holidays and parties. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Falfurrias where she served as a Deacon, Elder, on many church boards and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She sang in the community choir and enjoyed the sing-a-long events held with the Methodist Church, loved bird hunting, dancing and playing bridge. As a young lady, Margaret was employed as a bookkeeper with Mr. Casey and later was office manager for Doctors Penly and Wilder. She had many life long friends in Falfurrias.
She is survived by her son, David Montz and wife, Deborah of Sugarland; daughter, Loretta Lyles and husband, Michael of Frisco; daughter, Susan Vallely and husband, Jim of Harlingen. Her friend and companion of more than 30 years John A. Espensen of Canyon Lake. Grandchildren Jeffery ((Crystal) Lyles of Corsicana, Amanda Lyles of Plano, Meagann Vallely of Austin and Cassandra Vallely of Austin, and great-grandsons Kaleb, Kaden and Keaton Lyles of Corsicana. Sisters Nell Lewis of Fort Worth and Olene (Abner) Penner of Kingsburg, CA. Numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Patrick Lyles, brother and sister-in-law Mike and JoAnn Wright, sisters and brothers-in-law Claudie and Lamar Treadwell, Jeanie and Aubrey Wilkinson, Louise and John Fresien, and Helen and Pete Keener.
Services: There will be a visitation starting at 4:00 pm on Thursday January 13, at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Services will be held Friday January 14, at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Falfurrias with burial following at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Margaret’s honor to the charity of you choice. The family would like to thank Anderson Personal Care Home and Elder Care Home Health and Hospice for their loving care and attention, especially Martha, Isabel, Juanie, Suzie, Emily, Angela and Dora.
