Carl D. Anderson, age 79. Beloved husband for 58 years to Sandra (nee Frangopolos) Anderson. Loving father of Christina (Michael Oliver) Anderson and Ali (John) Schillace. Loving Hatcha of Molly, Claire, Zoe, and Carly. Great Hatcha to Sean. Dear brother to Fred (Cheryl) Anderson, Don (Carol) Anderson, John (Phyllis) Anderson, Louis Anderson, Bertha Brooks (Merle deceased), Marvin and Ruth Anderson (both deceased), Mary (deceased) and Ed Guzowski and Shirley (deceased) and Dominic Steingel. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lela Anderson, in-laws Maria and Gherasimos Frangopolos, and brother-in-law Tony Frangopolos. Brother in-law to Kathy and David Bencze. Dear uncle and friend to many.
Carl was born in rural Tennessee. As a child he built fires to keep his Dad and brothers warm when they worked in the coal mines. Carl also chopped wood to sell to the local Jack Daniels distillery. His family moved to Cleveland when he was six years old after his father decided he did not want his children working in the dangerous coal mines. To help support his large family, Carl worked as a paperboy who delivered The Plain Dealer around West 25th Street.
Carl graduated from West High School in 1962 where he met his lifetime love, Sandra. They were married on January 2, 1965 and moved to Olmsted Falls, Ohio where they raised their 2 daughters. He had a green thumb and grew beautiful gardens every summer. His family was always impressed with his baby and animal whispering skills.
Carl worked at Ferro Corporation in the late 1960’s working on camouflage textiles for the military. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and received a deferment at the last minute due to his work. He later worked for Heil/Xerxes and then ended his career at the IX Center.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church and served as a trustee in the 1980’s.
He was a kind and friendly man who was completely devoted to his family. He took such good care of Sandy that until he became ill she didn’t know how to pump gas for her car because she never had to. However, he also made sure his girls could take care of themselves and taught them to mow the lawn, check the oil and change tires on the car.
After retirement he occupied himself with his grandchildren. He was their #1 fan and enjoyed attending their softball games, theater, and musical performances. He enjoyed preparing scrapbooks to capture the lives of his grandchildren and family. He also enjoyed sketching and painting, especially birds, and feeding the ducks in his backyard.
