Ron was educated in the Belleville public school system, graduating from Belleville Township High School in 1950. After attending Belleville Area College he joined Tri City Grocery as an apprentice meat cutter. Ron advanced to the rank of manager leaving Tri City in 1970 to join Schnucks Markets. He became a manager at Schnucks in Fairview Heights, IL, the first store on the East side of the Mississippi River. Ron was promoted numerous times before retiring in 1997 as a Meat Merchandiser/Trainer. He was presented the Donald O. Schnuck Customer Service Award October 5, 1997. The award is presented in memory of Donald O. Schnuck in recognition of Outstanding Achievement and Dedication to Superior Customer Service. After a year of retirement Ron joined Beaulieu Marketing as a sales representative. He worked an additional 19 years with other marketing companies before retiring again at the age of 85.
Ron met Shirley while working at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Belleville and an epic love story began. Ron and Shirley were married by Rev. B.J. Koehler at St. Paul United Church of Christ on Saturday, April 25, 1953. They were married just shy of 62 years when Shirley passed away in February, 2015. Ron and Shirley raised two sons and three daughters. They perfectly complemented each other in every way and they are now reunited in Heavenly wedded bliss. Ron was devoted and supportive of his wife and family heartily. If ever there was a blueprint of love and marriage to follow it was theirs. They created a beautiful legacy with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, that will live on for generations.
Ron was a talented painter and had an amazing singing voice. He enjoyed reading and bird watching. Ron loved being outside among his many plants and flowers, and taking walks through the neighborhood. More than anything he cherished the time he spent with his family. The lessons and impressions he made will never be forgotten and will continue to be passed down through stories.
