Kathleen was born November 13, 1946 in Herrin, IL to John A. and Dorothy (Huggins) Hughes. They preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, John “Mickey” Hughes and Adele Prater; and brother-in-law, David Ignatius.
Kathleen is survived by her loving sons, David (Aimee) Brighton of Belleville, IL and John (Kim Lee) Brighton of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Wren Paul Brighton and Race David Brighton; siblings, Ellen Ignatius of Johnston City, IL, Terry (Jean) Hughes of Center, MO, Kevin (Ric Roldan) Hughes of Hawaii.
Kathleen spent her life devoted to helping others. Years ago, she worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Tom Feder and then she served as a chaplain in New York, caring and counseling people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Her heart for other people was one of the many qualities that made Kathleen so special.
She was a talented pianist throughout her life. She played the piano at Peace Lutheran Church and Calvary Lutheran Church, both in Belleville. More recently, she attended First Presbyterian Church in Belleville, IL and cherished the friends she made there. She loved to read throughout her life, as well.
Kathleen will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace.
Memorial donations in Kathleen’s name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
A time of visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded.
