John Wesley Anderson, 75, of O’Fallon, Illinois, peacefully passed, Thursday, October 31, 2024, in hospice care at Evelyn’s House in St. Louis, Missouri, with his family at his side. John was born in Kuttawa, Kentucky, on April 25, 1949, to Alex and Marjorie Anderson. He was the oldest of four children.
John joined the United States Air Force in 1968 and started out as an Aircraft Maintainer on the C-141 Starlifter aircraft before cross-training and becoming a Flight Engineer on that same aircraft. The Air Force took John all over the world, and most importantly, brought him his greatest honor of transporting supplies to those in Vietnam. He was also honored with the noble task of transporting the wounded and fallen home. John retired after proudly serving 20 years and his service remained one of his proudest accomplishments until the day he passed.
On Jul 13, 2002, John married Norma Wamser in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Together they have five children in their blended family, Kelly, John, Ryan, Joey and Josh. John was an active member of Christ Church in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Some of his favorite hobbies were playing card games and golf with his family and friends. Ultimately, his 11 grandchildren very quickly took over as the greatest joys and proudest moments of his life. He affectionately became known as the “baby whisperer” and embraced that role every chance he received.
John is preceded by his first wife, Theresa Anderson and his parents, Alex and Marjorie Anderson.
John is survived by his wife Norma; children, Kelly (Mike), John (Helena), Ryan (Michelle), Joey, Josh (Morgan); grandchildren, Jamie, Sophia, William, Ruthie, Stella, Evelyn, Murray, Jonathan, Noah, Lucille and Theo; siblings, Roger (Peggy), Marilyn (David), Donna, Lorrie (Carl), Kim (Gary), Brenda (Bob), Debbie, Larry (Chrissy) and Doug (Linda) and numerous nieces and nephews. He brought so much joy to our lives and everyone he interacted with.
A visitation for John will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A visitation will occur Monday, November 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Christ Church Fairview Heights Campus, 339 Frank Scott Pkwy E, Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with a funeral service immediately following at Christ Church.
John will be laid to rest in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery during a private ceremony at a later date.
