Elmer married Loraine Vanicek May 27, 1950 in Belleville. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Elmer began his career as a certified public accountant and then continued his career as a comptroller at Bodine Aluminum, retiring in 1983. In his spare time, Elmer enjoyed working on his farm to make improvements and help fix equipment. He also enjoyed line dancing with his wife, Loraine, and loved dogs. Elmer will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Christie Etling and Catherine (Bryan) Mitchell; grandchildren, Erin Dominov, Patrick (Amy) Dominov, Bryce Mitchell and Bethany (Brad) Cook; great-grandchildren, Eli Cook and James Dominov; sister-in-law, Carol Etling and several nieces and nephews. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Loraine Etling; sister, Dorothy Etling Helfrich and brother, Charles "Coke" Etling.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A private family graveside will be held in Lake View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Belleville Area Humane Society or the HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation.
