Dearold was born November 26, 1934 in Avon, IL to William and Gladys (Rayburn) Merriman. He married Marlene Elliott on July 10, 1955 in Wood Hall, IL. Together, they shared 66 years of marriage. She survives and resides in Shiloh, IL.
Also surviving are his children, Cindy Browning of Shiloh, IL and Allen Merriman of Florida; grandchildren, Rebecca (Jason) Messenger of St. Louis, MO and Kayla (Kyle) Emmerich of Belleville, IL; and his great-grandsons, Jacob and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Deana Merriman, Marsa Lee Merriman and Jeffrey Merriman; and siblings, Arlene Adams, Norma Derry, Shirley Bernand and Delbert Rayburn.
Dearold graduated from high school and began his career with the military, serving his country proudly. He was enlisted with both the Army, then later the Air Force, from which he retired. He was a past member of the VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He then continued his working career as the office manager at Bel-O Heating and Cooling for 18 years.
He loved to camp, bowl, play BINGO, go to the casino and square dance with the Galaxy Twirlers at Scott Air Force Base, with Marlene by his side. Above all else, his family was his pride and joy. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing the time he was able to spend with them. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the doctors, nurses and staff at Cedarhurst, Belleville Memorial Hospital and Memorial Care Center for the care and compassion shown to Dearold and the family throughout their time with them.
VISITATION: A visitation for Dearold will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 from 9:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
SERVICE: A funeral service will be held following the visitation, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, where full military honors will be rendered.
