Carol was a proud member of The Moose Lodge in Swansea, and The Fairview Elks, where she was Lady of the Year 2016-2017 and Elkette of the Year 2011-2012. She volunteered for the RSVP Organization, helped out in the kitchen at PSOP, was past President of the Bunsen School Mothers Club, and was past secretary of the Women’s Bowling League at Panorama Lanes.
Carol was passionate about cooking, she enjoyed playing cards with friends, putting puzzles together, and just sitting and chatting with her many friends. She will always be remembered for her desserts and her eagerness to volunteer her time to local organizations.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Mayer, and her daughter, Vicky L. Betts (nee Schwoebel).
Carol is survived by her 4 children, and the people who put the biggest smile on her face, her 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, Russ (Diane), Dale (Ellen), Danny (Michelle), and Daryl Schwoebel; her grandchildren, Tim and Jim Betts, Ben, Pat, Craig, Corey, Adam, Amy, Brandon, Brent, Cassidy, August, and Lani Schwoebel; and her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Betts, Amber, Annie Marie, Lewis, Claire, Evelyn, Adaline, and Isaac Schwoebel.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with a funeral service to start at 5:00 PM, at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois. Interment will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the Schwoebel family asks that you make a memorial donation in Carol’s name to the Belleville Humane Society, or St. Matthew Church in Belleville.
The family would also like to thank the good people of PSOP who she enjoyed very much, the congregation of St. Matthew Church of Belleville, along with Pat and Judy.
